Indiana Convention Center, Marriott Downtown and JW Marriott Hotel
The workshop will be held as part of the INFORMS Annual Meeting.
Transportation systems are a critical component of civil infrastructure that play an important role in the function and well-being of society. While there have been signi can’t recent innovations in transportation systems through research and advances in autonomy, electri cation and the shared economy, these technologies have arguably had limited impact on society at large due to the focus on individual mobility. Thus, it remains unclear whether these recent developments an by themselves lead us toward a transportation future that is both sustainable and equitable.
On the other hand, mass transit oriented solutions seem better positioned to help us reach these goals, but have seen very limited innovation in the past decades. In this context, the overarching goals of this workshop are two-fold: i) Motivating the study of a set of research questions at the technological frontier for conceptualizing, planning, designing, and operating a new generation of agile, data-driven transit systems, and ii) Bringing together researchers and practitioners from multiple academic domains, industry and public agencies to better understand the practical challenges and research opportunities in advancing mass transit. With this aim of advancing research frontiers and opportunities in next generation of transit systems by providing a forum for bringing together a diverse group of researchers and practitioners we propose a one day workshop titled, NSF Workshop on Transit Oriented Innovations in Emerging Mobility – Service Designs, Algorithms and Societal Implications.”
The workshop will consist of a series of keynotes, short talks and panel discussions from academics and practitioners, including experts from the private sector and transit agencies.
